India's Madan Bagayatkar won the bronze medal in the 11th Chess Olympiad for the
Blind held at Krakow, Poland from August 28 to September 8, 2000. The other Indians who took part in the event were
National Champion Vilesh Bhat and Charudatta
Jadhav.
In a quadrennial event in which medals are awarded in each of the four boards,
Madan Bagayatkar finished third behind Ukraine's Zsiltzowa Lubov (gold) and Finland's Tonteri Ari (silver). Russia won the team championship gold. Poland won the silver and Ukraine, bronze.
Players from 30 countries took part in the Olympiad. Also, Charudatta Jadhav was elected on the Board of the International Braille Chess Association.
