Sasikiran, heading for the super GM bracket after his Category 11
Penta Grandmaster tournament win in Chennai, today snatched a
wildcard for the world chess championships from FIDE president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov
here at New Delhi.
Sasikiran, the second best Indian in current
form after GM Viswananthan Anand, became the fourth chess
player from the country to make it to the 100-men knockout millennium championship to be held in the
capital from November 25 to December 16, 2000.
Viswanathan Anand, winner of just
concluded World Chess Cup 2000 at Shenyang, China along with Calcutta
based Grandmaster Dibyendu
Barua and National Champion Abhijit Kunte, nominated by the tournament administrator, are the other Indians in the fray at
the annual bonanza of FIDE, the world governing body of chess. |
