T S Ravi becomes India's latest International Master Sep 20

T S RaviThandalam Shanmugam Ravi of Indian Oil Corporation, Chennai has become India's 35th International Master. According to a press release from the Tamil Nadu Chess Association (TNCA) at Chennai, the Presidential Board of the FIDE, which met on September 8, 2002 at Kremlin, Moscow during the historic Russia vs Rest of the World contest, confirmed the International Master title for T S Ravi.

Ravi achieved the qualifying FIDE rating of 2400 in January 1997 (within seven months of his first IM norm). But it was only recently that he made a representation. His IM norms had come in the National "A" in Kasargod 1996 (where he finished Runner Up), Goodricke International Open 2000 at Calcutta, National "A" in Bombay in 2000 and quite recently at the Dubai International Open in April 2002.
