| In
order to showcase the achievements of Anand and hold him as a shining
example of thousands of young players in Tamil Nadu and India, the
Tamil Nadu Chess Association welcomes one and all to join hands in
felicitating the 15th World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand in the
function being organised at the Image Auditorium, MRC Nagar, Raja
Annamalai Puram (Behind Ayyappa Temple), Chennai, on this New
Year day at 6.00 PM.
The
evening's function to honour our hero will be preceded by a procession
which will start at 4.15 PM from Anand's residence at No.4, Customs
Colony Second street ( Opposite to St John's School) Besant Nagar,
Chennai and wend its way to the Image auditorium where the function
will be held.
Chairman
of the Organising Committee for the function J C D Prabhakaran, said
that Anand would be mounted on a chariot hauled by two horses as part
of a procession from his Besant Nagar residence to the felicitation
venue at Raja Annamalaipuram, where he would be ''crowned like a
king.''
''Anand
will be coroneted with gold-plated silver crown and given a scepter by
the TNCA and 'Joe Jolly Thrillers Private Limited' which would be
jointly organising the function. we
want to celebrate it like a festival. We want to make it like a
coronation ceremony of a king ascending his throne,'' he
announced.
Besides
chariot for Anand, there would be motorcades, which included school
buses, vans and two-wheelers, besides some vintage cars. About 200
school children would also be part of the procession, he added.
Chief
Justice of the Madras High Court Honorable H.K. Jain will be the chief
Guest at the function which will be presided by r. N Mahalingam,
president, Tamil Nadu Chess Association. Felicitations will be offered
by Mr. P.R. Venkataramana Raja, Vice President , RAMCO systems
and Mr. N. Murali, Joint Managing Director of the popular English
Daily, THE HINDU.
Also
the Millennium award of Rupees Two Lakhs announced by THE
SPORTSTAR on the 30th will be presented to Anand today by
Mr. N Murali.
As a
special treat, an exhibition on Anand's progress and achievements in
the form of Photographs and articles will be on display at the huge
auditorium.
The
Tamil Nadu Chess Association which is organising this function, has
been in existence ever since April 1947 and ha produced two
Grandmasters, one woman Grandmasters, a number of International
Masters and women masters, FIDE masters, International Arbiters and
more than 120 FIDE-rated players. The TNCA has also organised a number
of national and international events right from the year 1960, like
the Anand-Dreev match in 1990, the Asian Junior in 1979 and 1984, the
Asian Zonal in 1995 besides a number of International Master and
Grandmaster chess tournaments like the BHEL Grandmasters as early as
1979 and the latest PentaMedia Grandmasters in August 2000 to pick
just a few.
