Former Indian Chess player and official K K Shukla died at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh after prolonged illness. Shukla, 79, has represented India in Chess Olympiads at
Varna, Bulgaria in 1962, and at Tel Aviv, Israel in 1964 and also at the World Chess Federation
(FIDE) for four years. He was a former Vice-President of All India Chess Federation from 1985-89 and Treasurer from 1989-93 of which he was one of the founder members. He has also established an Institute of International Chess at Kanpur and he was also the Secretary of the UP State Chess Association for many years.
In his death, Indian Chess lost one of the efficient administrators.
Shuklaji was always loyal to the federation and served it till his last days. He was active in the association till the 1990's and was also one of the able
organizers in the north. He was a lawyer and part of this experience was always given to the federation in legal matters.
AICF President Dhruv Sawhney and Secretary P T Ummer Koya paid rich tributes to Shukla. "He was a very good friend and a good administrator", Sawhney said. "In the 1980s, he was a strong presence in the federation", Koya added.
AICF General Body which met at Hotel Hyatt Regency, New Delhi in 20th September 2000 condoled the death of
Shukla.
