| Piket shocks Kasparov for KC Online Chess title |

The Netherlands stunned World No. 1 Garry Kasparov of Russia 1.5-0.5 in the final of the Kasparovchess
Grand Prix Online Rapid Chess Tournament organised by
www.kasparovchess.com on Sunday Feb. 20, 2000. Piket takes home the winners cheque of USD 20,000.
Piket defended the opening game well to hold Kasparov to a draw by perpetual checks. Playing with white pieces in the reverse encounter, he won a rook and pawn ending converting a four against three advantages with pawns on the same side in 50 moves. On course to title Piket beat Seirawan 1.5-0.5, Morozevich 1-1, 1-1, 2-0, Svidler 1.5-0.5 and Kasparov 1.5-0.5 for a memorable triumph. Kasparov on the other hand had beaten Barua 2-0, Van Wely 1.5-0.5, M Adams 1.5-0.5 before losing to Piket in the finals.
