It
was just apt that the coy young lass from Vijayawada, Koneru Humpy,
reached her summit, becoming a Women Grandmaster, in the hometown of
her idol Judit Polgar. For it was in a Category XI tournament in
Budapest, Hungary that the Andhra girl did the country proud achieving
the coveted title of Women Grandmaster at less than 15 years. Humpy
becomes India's youngest Women Grandmaster and the second one after
Vijayalakshmi. She is the reigning British Women's Champion and in the
recently concluded Oakham Grandmaster's tournament in England she also
get her maiden Men International Master Norm. For a player like Humpy,
who personifies talent, handwork and dedication all put together,
nothing is impossible. Humpy his coached by her father Koneru Ashok, a
national player himself in yesteryears.
