Commonwealth Chess champion and the youngest Grand Master Pentyala Harikrishna will be in action for another title with his seniors at the 8th National Rapid Chess Championship, commencing at Tirur in Malappuram
District, Kerala from 19th September.
The 15-year-old prodigy from Andhra Pradesh, however, will have a tough time with national champion Dibyendu Barua (Bengal) GMs Abhijit Kunte (Maharashtra) and K Sasikiran (Tamil Nadu) on table across him. The national meet for the Kainikkara Mammi Memorial trophy with Rs 85000/- in cash at stake totally, would conclude on 23rd September.
The Champion will get the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25000/-. Giving details of the
championship, FIDE vice-president P T Ummer Koya told newsmen here today that more than 80 players would participate in the meet. Reigning champion R B Ramesh, Surya Shekhar Ganguly and D V Prasad would be the other
prominent players for the championship.
