Grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran lead the Indian show with a big jump in Elo for the July 2000 FIDE Rating list. With an Elo rating of 2573,
Sasikiran, the reigning Asian Junior champion moves to the sixth spot in World Junior Rankings. Changes were few in the World
rankings with Kramnik moving to the second place ahead of Anand, while
Kasparov kept his top place intact. Englishman Michael Adams made a
strong yet silent progress moving upto to the fifth spot. The
World top ten almost remained the same, the only new entrant was the
Polish Grandmaster Krasenkow who moved from 26th place in the previous
list to 10th position in the current list.
Among the Indians, Sasikiran is next only to Anand, with the National
Champion GM Abhijit Kunte occuping the third spot. While GM Dibyendu Barua has slid down to 2502 losing 53 points in the six month span, teenaged Harikrishna made an incredible jump from 2354 to touch the coveted 2500 mark in one go. West Bengal lad Suryasekhar Ganguly too continued with his upward surge to move to his highest ever
Elo of 2498. The strongest Indian women player Vijayalakshmi is in the 48th position with an Elo of 2378, while the World Under 18 Girls
Champion Aarthie Ramaswamy with
an Elo of 2319 is in the 18th spot among Girls. National Champion Vijayalakshmi continued to stay
in the Indian top 20 despite her loss of 5 Elo points from the 41 games she played this season.
Indian
Rating list continues to surge with every list and the July 2000 one
