The All India Chess Federation AGM here turned out to be a tame affair with the ruling group's N Srinivasan and P T Ummer Koya elected unopposed as
President and Secretary respectively. Tamil Nadu nominee N Srinivasan, Chairman, India Cements Ltd, who was not even present in the city, got a walkover after his only rival Col Mohan Singh of Rajasthan pulled out of the contest at the last minute.
The chaos witnessed in the aborted September 1 AGM at Delhi seemed to have been relegated to history as P T Ummer Koya also won an unprecedented fourth term in office without a fight as the other contestant V R Bobba of Andhra Pradesh withdrew from the race.
Mr Koya, Vice President of World chess governing body FIDE, has held on to the AICF post since 1989. He was earlier the AICF joint secretary from 1985 to 1989.
Soumen Majumdar, fielded as a nominee of the Madhya Pradesh Chess Association, was elected unanimously as Treasurer, being the only candidate for the post. The election of six Joint Secretaries also passed off without a hitch as Udayan Kanti Ghosh of West Bengal and R S Tiwari of Haryana pulled out facilitating the unanimous election of A R Khan (Bihar), Bharat Singh Chauhan (Delhi), Pradeep Kumar Singh (Assam), Suhas Asnodkar (Goa), Thanhilira (Mizoram) and Vinod Sharma (Punjab).
Voting was only held for the six posts of Vice President, where U L Asrapota (Gujarat), P C Chaturvedi (U P), S L Harsh (Rajasthan), V K Rathi (MP), Romola Chakraborty (WB) and D V Sundar (TN) emerged with flying
colors. Karnataka's Ramachandra, who was absent, got only two votes. Another candidate K Ratnakumar opted out.
