Meet this baby
faced champion from the Capital city of New Delhi. Heard of someone who spends more time
watching theoretical lines and variations than under television and cartoons. That's the
Champion - Parimarjan Negi, the nine year old (DOB 09 Feb 1993) from Amity International
School, New Delhi. A countenance that doesnt show much of his fierce determination to
succeed in the game, Parimarjan spoke to us immediately on conclusion of the
National Under 12 & 14 Championship at Chennai.Q: When did you start playing chess?
A: At around four and a half years of age.
Q: What happened in the last two rounds at
Chennai where you lost successively?

lost in the opening itself as I missed the thread in a Sicilian side-line.

A: Winning the Gold medal in the Asian Under-10 Category
at Tehran where I led from the middle of the tournament and became the champion with a
round to spare.

games with each other.

A: I would want to win the World Under-10 title this
year.
Q: How would you describe your style of play?
A: Basically I like to attack, hence I go for dynamic
positions.
Q: Which win gave you the most satisfaction?
A: It is my win over S Ravi Teja in Tehran recently. In
that game, I sacrificed a piece, an exchange, again a piece and I had a mating attack.
