The first State Level Children’s Chess Tournament conducted by The Diamond Chess Academy and sponsored by M/s Salem Stores &
Jewelers and M/s Lakshmi Traders attracted 180 entries from different districts of Tamil Nadu. The tournament was conducted in 6 separate groups, 3 for boys and 3 for girls. While the boys group attracted higher number of entries, the girls group attracted lesser number of entries.
The tournament was inaugurated by Messer's C Ranganathan of Salem Stores &
Jewelers, Srimathi Jagannathan, President, SDCA, and Mr Senthilvel, Secretary,
SDCA.
Salem players annexed four out of six titles, while Neyveli and Chennai players annexed one title each. Ten prizes each in boys and 7 prizes each in girls groups were distributed. Young kid C H Savetha of Salem remained undefeated with 5 wins in as many rounds and lifted the giant size cup and the title in Under 10 Girls. The prizes were distributed by Messers Madhavan of Salem Stores &
Jewelers, Srimathi Jagannathan, President, SDCA, Balakrushnan, President, Diamond Chess Academy and Lakshmi Venkataraman, Auditor. The function was graced by Shri T S Krishnamurthy, Vice-President,
SDCA.
The tournament was ably organised by Smt Asha Balakrushnan, Secretary, fully
supported by Mr Balakrushnan, President of the Academy. Mr Natarajan officiated
as the Chief Arbiter supported by many Deputy Arbiters.
