The Elite Club of Chess, Salem, an affiliate of Salem
District Chess Association is conducting a number of Chess tournaments during the past few years ranging from the age group to seniors and from School Team events to closed invitation tournaments. For the second year in a row, they have organised District Level Under-16 Chess
Championship for boys and girls separately from 25 08 2001 to 26 08 2001 at Oxford Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Salem. This tournament is
jointly sponsored by Lions Club of Salem Midtown.
The boys section attracted 74 entries including the lone girl participant P K Jayashree. The girls section attracted 22 entries. Shri M Natarajan was the Chief Arbiter. P K Jayashree emerged winner in the boys section and current National Under-8 Girls runner up, C H Savetha emerged victorious in the Girls section.
Ln N M Rajen Prabaker, President, Ln C Joseph Maria Prakash and Ln B Geetha, Secretary, Ln G Thiagarajan, Treasurer from the Lions Club of Salem Midtown and Sri P Murali, President, Rtn S Shanthanam, Sri G Mathivanan, Sri P Mohanraj and Sri R Venkataraman from Elite Club of Chess
were present in the prize distribution function.
