Chandigarh
October 11th to 14th 2001

| Raghavi,
Ishwarya Shobana, G N Gopal and Akshayraj Kore emerge champs |
|
Januray born Aquarian
N Raghavi of Tamil Nadu (DOB 28 01 1989) clinched her maiden National title taking the Under 12 Rapids at Chandigarh here today.
Winner's of other age categories include Aishwarya Shobana (Under 14
Girls) also of Tamil Nadu, G N Gopal (Under 12 Boys) of Kerala and
Akshayraj Kore (Under 14 Boys) of Maharashtra.
With a whopping score of 6/7 the Chennai girl
Raghavi emerged champion ahead of favorite Madurai lass M Rajadarshini, who also scored six points. But a better tie break score gave Raghavi the title. In their individual encounter midway, Raghavi had accounted for Rajadarshini, and the latter could never catch up in the progressive after that. Raghavi's only loss came against her state mate Sivasankari. An eighth standard student of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan HSS, Chennai, Raghavi has been close to
big titles several times and missed them narrowly. But this time around it was a different case and she now qualifies to represent the country in the World Children's Rapid, which is usually held at Disneyland, Paris. Raghavi is coached by
two players
from Chennai, D Ganesh and A L Kasi. |
