Top seed Vikas Sharma
(Elo 2164) of Ludhiana bagged the title in the of 2nd North India Open Championship conducted by Nabha Chess Club here at Nabha Palace, Nabha, Patiala, from 28th to 30th September 2001. Eighty players from North Indian region participated in this tournament, which consisted of Junior and Senior categories. S K Sharma of Patiala was the Chief
Arbieter.
Vikas Sharma in his race to championship scored 6/7 drawing against second
positioned & his arch rival Arvinder Preet Singh of Ludhiana and M P Verma of Delhi. Arvinder Preet Singh also played a strong chess by beating second seeded & local favourite Raja Singh (Elo 2135) in a very interesting last round battle. In Junior category National player Gursher Singh was the champion.
