The 2nd annual open tournament for the Chess Trust Rolling Trophy was
conducted by the Salem Chess Trust from 12th to 15th October, 2000 at Kamala
Mahal, Fort, Salem. 130 participants from all over Tamil Nadu State, took part in
this tournament, which included 10 rated players. To encourage the seniors
among the chess players, the organizers gave free entry for men above 50 and
women above 25 yrs. of age and also announced special prizes for them.
The tournament was conducted in 9 round Swiss format, with Mr M Natarajan as
the Chief Arbiter. There was no inaugural function, which is a welcome feature
among the participants nowadays, as such functions turns out to be matter of
boredom for them.
The arrangements for this tournaments were done by Messers T S
Krishnamurthy, Managing Trustee of the Salem Chess Trust, ably supported by trustees Messers
T S Lakshmi Venkatraman, Dr K K Thirumal Rao, M K Kesavan, D Narasimmaiyer and P B Ravi.
Ram S Krishnan of Chennai and M K Alaguraja of Madurai scored 7.5 points and
the tie break favored the Chennai youngster who bagged the first prize of
Rs.3000/- and the rolling shield. M K Alaguraja take home Rs. 2000/-. In the Prize Distribution function held on 15.10.2000, Shri V Gopalji, Mrs Sreemathi Jagannathan, President, Salem District Chess Association
participated and gave away the prizes. Dr K K Thirumal Rao graced the occasion. State Junior Champions P K Jayashree, S Nitin and C H Savetha were
honored during the function. Shri. T S Krishnamurthy proposed the vote of thanks.
