Saha emerges winner |

Suvrajit Saha of
Railways won the inaugural WBCA All India FIDE Rated Chess Tournament held from 22nd to 31st August 2000 at Kshudiram Anushilan Kendra, Calcutta. Among the 129 participants, there were nine entries from Bangladesh and two from Nepal. There were 11 rounds in the Swiss League Championship organised by West Bengal Chess
Asssociation. Top seed Suvrajit Saha
was in lead right through and won the title with a score of 9.0 points. Udayan Kani Ghosh the Organising Secretary of WBCA & Padmashree Chuni Goswami inaugurated this rating tournament. The total prize fund was Rs 74,800/-. Sports Minister of West Bengal
Shri Subhas Chakraborti and eminent footballer Padmashree P K Banerjee distributed the prizes. Romola Chakraborti, President of WBCA presided over the prize distribution ceremony. Shib Shankar Roy and Ram Shankar Bhattacharya
(both International Arbiters) were the main Arbiters of this tournament.
