| Poobesh Anand wins under-18 crown |
|
Poobesh Anand of Dolphin Public School, Madurai, with 7.5 points, won the 26th Tamil Nadu State sub junior chess championship for boys, lifting the
V L Ethiraj Trophy after the conclusion of the ninth and final round at Karur. Poobesh beat D Krishna (Coimbatore) in the final round. Joint leader Deepan Chakravarthy (Madurai) was held to a draw by Bharat Raj Kidambi of Chennai and finished second with seven points.C Praveen Kumar (Madurai) came third with the same number of points with lesser progressive score. Poobesh, Deepan, Praveen and P Maheswaran (Virudhunagar) qualified for the forthcoming Nationals.
In the girls championship, P Malarselvi, H Nilavoli, P Priya (all Chennai) and R Mahima (Madurai) qualified for the ensuing Nationals.
