| NATIONAL RAPID FOR UNDER
12 & 14 BOYS & GIRLS, CALICUT |
 The little lass from Pune,
Eesha Karvade, stole the show winning her second national title in succession. She emerged
a clear winner in the National Rapid under-12 Girls category at the V.K. Krishna Menon
Indoor Stadium, Calicut. Eesha had won the under-12, the classical variety, in June last,
in Calcutta. The tournament was held simultaneously with the National Sub-Junior
Championship for Boys and Girls from August 24th to 27th, 1999.In another double, two kids from Madurai, Deepan Chakravarthy in under-12
Boys and C Delphin in under -14 Girls won the titles making it a grand double for the
State of Tamil Nadu. Valay Parikh of Gujarat won the under-14 Boys title with a score of
6/7. It was some consolation for him as he was the top-seed for the Sub-Junior nationals,
where he could only tie for the lower placing. The winners qualify to represent the
country in the World Rapid Chess Children's Festival that is usually held at Disneyland,
France.
