"It's truly a dream come true," said the l3 year old Deepan Chakravarthy, a ninth standard student of Dolphin Matriculation School, Madurai on winning the Cyber Enterprises Trophy, Cochin with a huge 8.5/10 score. With a friendly draw in the final round he took the winner's cash prize of Rs 5,000. Talented Deepan, who celebrated his 13th birthday a couple of weeks ago, won his first major senior title on Friday, June 30, 2000 ahead of several seasoned stars. The Madurai lad had won the silver medal in the Commonwealth Under 14 event last year and the gold at the National Rapid Chess championship in the same age-group, but Cusat gives him his first major prize in the senior circuit. For a youngster who came here just to improve his FIDE rating, the Cusat Open All India Chess tournament turned out to a pleasant surprise. Maharashtra's 15 year old Konakanchi Ninad Ravi, who pulled off some big upsets before surrendering the lead to Deepan Chakravarthy, finished Runner up with eight points while S Poobesh Anand, also of Madurai and Karnataka's M S Thej Kumar finished third and fourth respectively.
