This 10-round event with a total prize fund of $7635 attracted 61 participants from seven nations. IM R. B. Ramesh, of IOC, took the lead after four rounds. In the fifth round he defeated Grandmaster A. J. Miles of England and brightened his chances of a maiden GM norm. But unfortunately, he lost the next four games and did not find a place in the prize list. Baburin took the lead in the 6^th round with a facile win over Ramesh and never looked back. Baburin remained undefeated throughout the Championship. Indian Chess gained a lot, from this event, for many Indian players achieved their norms here. Anup Deshmukh completed the requirements for his IM title while C. S. Gokhlale and Sandipan Chanda obtained IM norms. Among the Women participants, IWM Bhagyashree Thipsay played steadily to  secure her maiden WGM norm.
