| Humpy, Harikrishna,
Abhijit and Mary Ann clinch titles |
| In a big sweep, Indian
youngsters made the country proud by winning four of the six titles in the Asian Youth
Chess championship that concluded in Ahmedabad on 24 Dec. 1999. International Women Master
and favourite Koneru Humpy, won the under-12 title, while Harikrishna, Abhijit Gupta and
Mary Ann Gomes added to the home team's booty. Hari
won on superior tie-break over M.R.Venkatesh in the boys' under-14 section, while Abhijit
Gupta and Mary Ann Gomes won the Boys and Girls title in under-10 categories. In the girls
under-12, India's Eesha Karavade tied for the first place with 6.5 points, but a superior
tie break gave Atousha Pour of Iran, the title.
