Younger sibling of Krishnans, Shyam
S Krishnan (PSBB, KK Nagar) with five points emerged winner in the selection tournament of conducted by Avadi Chess Academy on 31st March - 1 April 2001 at Velammal MHSS, Chennai. The revamped Avadi Chess Academy under the
able Secretaryship of Mr
N N Sivagnanam is aspiring to do big events like Nationals in the near future with the sponsorship of Velammal Trust. The tournament being the first one in the current season was to select four players to represent the Academy in the Tamil Nadu State Championship to be held at Karur from 1st May
2001.
The tournament attracted around 40 entries, though less to the expectation of the
organizers. As the timing of the tournament was coincided with the academic examinations entries were
a bit less. Earlier the organizers announced that they would sponsor one player per fifteen participants for the State event, which was a notable one. They have also mentioned that a cash prize of Rs.1000/- will be awarded to the player who represents and Academy and wins the State Championship.
Though there were no upsets in the entire tournament, the encounter between two brothers - Ram and Shyam
S Krishnan - went without any firework as the elder brother gifted full point to his
younger brother, Shyam. Ram in that process beat
G Sagaya Rabin who was no match for him in the final round and took second place. Both Ram and Shyam
S Krishnan scored five points in six rounds, thus were qualified to represent the Academy along with the other qualifiers viz.
S Sujatha and M Vijay Anand.
