Chennai District Children's Championship
Sethuraman, Tulasi, Vijay win Titles
S.P. Sethuraman (AVM School) won the Under-8 category of the Linkindia Chennai District Chess Championship organised by Chennai Chess Association at the Indian Red Cross Society here yesterday. The Tournament sponsored by M/s. Agil Freight Logistics P. Ltd. attracted 80 entries and was held on 2.10.99 and 3.10.99.

S.P. Sethuraman emerged as Champion in Under-8 category by winning all his six rounds. V. Sai Shankar (Jawahar Vidyalaya) won the second prize with 5 points. V.S. Gridhar (St. Michael's Academy), Tarun Murali (Vidya Mandir), A. Akash (PSBB), S. Raghavendra (Vivekananda Vidyalaya), B. Adhiban (Hindu Sr. Sec. School) and A. Srinath (PSBB) secured 4 points each and bagged the prizes for the third to eighth places respectively.

In Under-10 Girls' category, S. Tulasi (Vivekananda Vidyalaya) and V.J. Janani (Bhavan's Rajaji) tied with 4.5 points each at the end of fifth and final round. As their tie-break score was also equal, the 'spin of coin' method was used and Dame Luck smiled on Tulasi. As a result, she was declared the Champion. Janani finished Runner-up. R. Gomathey (Bhakthavatchalam Vidayashram) and S. Adiba Timkeen (Sri Krishnaswami MHSS) with 3 points each won the third and fourth prizes respectively.

M.P. Vijay (Bhakthavachalam Vidyashram) won the title in Under-10 category by securing 5.5 points out of six rounds. S.M. Sakthi Prakash (PSBB) finished second. R.Ram Narayanan (AVM), Joel Modestus (SBOA), R. Ashwath (SBOA), V. Santhosh (Velankanni) and D. Saravanan (St. Vincent) finished third to seventh respectively with 4.5 points each. W. Richardson got the eighth prize with 4 points to his credit.

Bharathi (Bhakthavachalam) 2 points Mr. Rajesh Jeyaraman, Finance Manager, M/s. Agil Freight Logistics P. Ltd., gave away the prizes in the Prize Distribution function held on Sunday evening.
