Children's Chess Championship for Dolphin Trophies was organised by Capa Chess Academy on
behalf of Chennai District Chess Association and Tamil Nadu Chess Association from 9.10.99
to 14.10.99 at the Indian Red Cross Society, Chennai. This event which was sponsored by
M/s. Greenways Shipping Agencies Ltd. attracted 130 entries from various Districts of
Tamil Nadu. M. Gopikrishna, a fifth standard
student of Dolphin Public School, Madurai, won the Under-10 Boys' title in the Greenways
Tamil Nadu Children's Chess Championship for Dolphin Trophies organised by Capa Chess
Academy.Gopikrishna played a superb end game against Joel Modestus (Che) to notch up seven
points. M. Subachandran (NGR) also secured seven points by defeating N. Chandrasekaran
(Che). As Gopikrishna was having a better progressive score, he was declared the Champion.
Subachandran finished runner-up. K.R. Nagarajan is now coaching Gopikrishna.
In the Under-10 Girls section, V.K. Sindhu, another fifth
standard student of Dolphin Public School, Madurai, became the champion with six points by
winning against K. Anusha (NA Dist) in the seventh round C.S. Nandhini Devi (VRD) also
secured six points by defeating M. Soundaram ((VRD). As Sindhu's tie-break score was
better, she was declared the winner and Nandhi emerged the runner-up. International Master
Raja Ravisekhar is the coach of Sindhu.
In the Under-8 Girls section, M.Kushboo, a third standard
student of DAV Mugappair won the title with six points, when she drew her seventh round
game against C. Vandana (CBF). On the second table, C.H. Savetha (Salem) defeated G.
Amirthavallai (Che) to take her tally to 5.5 points. C.H. Savetha and Vandana tied with
each other with 5.5 points and finished second and third, respectively, on account of
their progressive scores. Kushboo is being coached by Raja Jamal.
In the Under-8 Boys section, Nithin established his
supremacy by winning his final round game against R. Nithin Kumar (SVG), N. Surendran
(TVL), V. Sai Shankar (Che), R. Nithin Kumar, Kirubakaran, I. Arasu (MDU), S.P. Sethuraman
(Che) and M. Muthu Alagappan (TVI) secured five points, each, and thereby bagged all the
prizes from the second to seventh places, respectively.
S. Nithin (SIM), N. Surendran (TVL), M. Kushboo (TVL),
C.D. Savetha (SLM), M. Gopikrishna (MDU), M. Subachandran (NGR), V.K. Sindhu (MDU) and
C.S. Nandhiji Devi (VRD) will represent Tamil Nadu in the National Children's Chess
Championship to be held in Aurangabad in December this year.
The Prize Distribution function was presided over by Mr.
Manuel Aaron, General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Chess Association and Mr. R. Swaminathan,
Chief Executive, M/s. Greenways Shipping Agencies P. Ltd. gave away the prizes. |
