Karthikeyan, Anand Raj Lift Kohli Trophies
P.Karthikeyan (JRM Middle School) and M.M.Anand Raj (St.Mary;s High School) lifted H.S.Kohli Trophies by winning the Under-12 & 14 sections of Didar Motors Chennai District Open Rapid Chess Championships organized by Rotary Club Of Madras Metro and Chennai District Chess Association at Indian Red Cross Society here yesterday.
P.Karthikeyan drew his eighth and final round game with V.Guna (Dominic Savio) to notch up 7.5 points and emerged as the champion.
N.Srinath (P.S.Sr.Sec.School) defeated S.Piyush (PSBB) finished Runner-Up with 7 points. Piyush won the third Prize with 6 points.
Three players namely, M.M.Anand Raj (St. Mary’s), Aswin Jeyaram (Bala Vidya Mandir) and S.M.Syed Moosa (Asan Memorial) tied with 6.5 points each and finished first, second and third in that order on account of tie-break score.
Anjanaa N.Sowjanyaa (Modern Sr. Sec. School) made a clean sweep in the Under-12 Girls’ section by winning all her eight games. TN State Under-7 Champion J. MohanaPriya (The Ashram) finished Runner-Up with 5.5 points.
N.Janani Priya (St.Kevin AI School) secured 5.5 points to lift the title in a eight player, All Play All seven round league event in Under-14 Girls’ section. K.Mrunalini finished second with 5 points.
In Seniors section former National “B” Champion R.Balasubramanian (ICF) emerged as the champion with 7 points despite his last round loss to R.R.Laxman (Dr.M.G.R.Engg. College).TN State Senior Champion Ram S.Krishnan (Loyola) who drew his last round game with R.Navaneethakrishnan, and Laxman tied with 6.5 points each and finished second and third respectively. R.Balasubramanian was awarded Rs.1000/- as Cash Prize.
The winners were awarded H.S.Kohli trophies by Mr.Rtn. R.Ganapaqthy, District Governor, Rotary District 3230 in the prize distribution function held yesterday at the venue.
In all 192 players from various districts of Tamil Nadu took part in this annual event which was held on
the third weekend of November 2001.
