Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior
Secondary School, KK Nagar, Chennai bagged the All India CBSE Schools National Team
Chess championship Trophy with a score of 24 points from 7 rounds. With this win
PSBBSSS, KK Nagar, Chennai made a hat-trick and retained the trophy for the third
time. This tournament was conducted at Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Chennai
from 24-1-2002 to 29-1-2002 and attracted more than 35 CBSE School Teams from all over India.
PSBBSSS, KK Nagar, Chennai, were in the lead right from the completion of the fourth round. Modern Senior Secondary School finished second with 23.5 Points with DAV
School, Amritsar, Punjab winning the third place and SBOA Chennai, the fourth place. The winning combination from PSBBSSS team consisted of experienced players, Shravan Kumar Talwar - First Board, M.K. Narasimhan - Second Board, Bharath Raj Kidambi - Third Board,N. Raghavi - Fourth Board
and with two reserve board players K. Mrunalini and K. Abishek.
The CBSE Schools National Chess Championship 2001-2002 meet was inaugurated by Mr.
V Kameswaran, International Arbiter and President, Chennai District Chess
Association and Vice President TNCA on 24th January,2002 at 10.30 a.m. with Dr. G.P. Gautham, OSD (SPORTS) CBSE, NEW DELHI, as a special invitee.
