Gunasekaran and Kavitha emerge Champions
K. Gunasekaran and J. E. Kavitha won the Men's and Women's title of the II Annual Capa Chess Academy National B Selection Tournament. The seven round Swiss event was organised at the Indian Red Cross Soceity premises, Egmore.

In the final round, Gunasekaran of Thiruvallur District drew with former Tamil Nadu State Champion P. Magesh Chandran to take his ponts tally to 6.5  thereby clinching the title. State Under-12 champion R Siddharth (St.Joseph's AIHSS, Vepery) defeated National Junior girls runner-up M. R. Sangeetha of Chennai district to secure 6 points and the second place. Benoglad. who too scored 6 points defeating T B Sundar, was placed third on account of his lower progressive score. P. Magesh chandran, Preetham Sharma and R. S. Prasanna (Modern Sr. Sec. School) secured 5.5 each and finished fourth to sixth in that order.

In the Women's section, former national Sub Junior Girls Champion J. E. Kavitha (Christ King ) won the title by defeating P. Malarselvi (Avichi) in the sixth and final round.
On the top table S. Nabeela Fareen (Sri Krishnaswamy Matriculation) and P. Priya (Avichi) drew their game to secure 4.5 each. Since both their tie-break scores were equal, the spin of coin was resorted to. Dame Luck smiled on Priya and she won the toss to finish second. Former Natiopnal A player Mrs. Krishna Babu defeated former Tamil Nadu State Champion to collect 4 points and finished fourth.

Gunasekaran and Siddarth , Kavitha and Priya will represent Capa Chess Academy in the forthcoming National B Chess Championships for Men and Women respectively.
