Round Humpy finishes fifth |

In the last and final round( 13 th round), Humpy played against
Erenburg,
Sergei of Israel with white pieces. The game went on Slav defense lines
and Humpy opened "g" file playing h4 in the 21st move she mobilized
all her pieces to the king side and build up a strong attack on blacks king and won
the game in 51 moves. Humpy finished Fifth with her last round victory with
7.5 points.
Earlier in the 12th round Humpy lost her game against Postny, Evgeny of
Israel in four knights game. She lost a pawn in the middle game complications
and resigned after 56 moves in the queen and pawn ending. GM Vajda Levente of Romania and Postny, Evgeny of Israel with 9.5 points
each have jointly won the tournament and another Indian Tejas Bakre
withdrawn from the tournament after 10th round conceding his 11th round
match to Koneu Humpy. |

Humpy drew
her 10th round game against GM Vajda Levente of Romania with black pieces in 56 moves.
Humpy played Petroff Defence and the game went on normal lines till whites 8th move.
Humpy`s Be6 was a new move and it offers equal chances. Vajda tried to get advantage on
queen side by pushing his pawns to b4 , d5 and gave a break on 21.c5. After exchanging off
all the minor pieces both were having Queen and Rook in the ending. Vajda obtained a
passer in the d file in the 31st move for Humpy`s extra pawn. At this stage of the game
humpy forced the exchange of Rooks and entered in to the queen and pawn ending which
ensures her a draw.

Humpy won
her 9th round game against FM Lorsceid Gerhard of Germany with white pieces in Modern
Defence.Humpy got two bishops advantage in the middle game.In the 19th move Queens were
exchanged off from the board and humpy got upper hand in the Rook and Bishop vs Rook and
Knight Ending and forced black to resign in 54 moves.IM Tejas Bakre lost his 9th round
game against GM Sahovic Dragutin of Yugoslavia with black pieces in Trompowsky Attack. |

Former World
Junior Champion Hoang Thanh Trang and the current World Junior Champion Koneru Humpy drew
their seventh round game in 36 moves. Humpy opened her game with d4 and faced dutch
defence from IM Hoang thanh trang of vietnam. Humpy tried a novelty Nb5 in the 8th move
and got a slightly better position. Both the players castled opposite sides and tried to
attack each other. In the 21st move Hoang Thanth Trang offered queens exchange by playing
Qg4 and that was accepted. The game ended as a draw by threefold repetition. In another
game, IM Tejas Bakre of India drew his 7th round game against IM Erenburg Sergey of Israel
in Sicilian Alapin Variation with black pieces. |

Humpy lost
her 6th round game against IM Shirazi Kamran of USA with black pieces in 35 moves in Kings
Gambit Declined. In the opening phase of the game Humpy got the advantage and destroyed
opponents pawn structure by creating double isolated pawns d2,d3 in the center. Whites
king remained in the center and it looks almost winning for black. But at this stage of
the game humpy allowed her opponent to play b3 on his 17th move and Bb2 on his 18th move
to get counter play. Humpy could have played 17th move Nf5 instead of inferior Be6 move.
In the 25th move humpy missed her last chance to maintain the advantage by playing c6. Her
27th move c5 was a terrible mistake, which costs her a vital point and the game. Humpy is
on 3 Points from 6 Rounds. Tejas Bakre drew his 6th round game against IM Postny Evegeny
of Israel with white pieces in the Ruy-Lopez Exchange variation. He is on 4 points. |

Grandmaster Elect Humpy played
a good positional game in the 5th round to defeat WGM Dembo Yelena of Hungary in the Kings
Indian Defence with white pieces in 76 moves. The game went on normal lines till whites
14th move. Dembo Yelena played her 14th move Nh5 and 15th move F5. Humpy played F4 and
successfully exchanged Blacks Bishop on G7 Square and exchanged the Queens in the 23rd
move to be in a better position. Humpy won the game in Rook, Double Knights vs Rook,
Double Knights ending. Grandmaster Norm holder IM Tejas Bakre won his 5th round game
against IM Blauert Jeorg of Germany in the Reti Opening. He is on 3.5 points.

Elect Humpy lost her fourth round game against IM Blauert Jeorg of Germany in the
Caro-Kann Panov-Botvinik Attack with black pieces in 32 moves. Both the players followed
the book moves till whites 15th move. Humpy played her 15th move Bf6 which is doubtful and
well exploited by her opponent. The other Indian in fray, Tejas Bakre also lost his game
against GM Vajda Levente of Romania in Sicilian Alapin Variation with Black pieces. |

Baroda sponsored Grandmaster Elect Koneru Humpy of India drew against Czech Grandmaster
Lechtynsky Jiri (2413) at Budapest, here today. Other Indian in the fray, IM Tejas Bakre
also drew his first round and remains in 0.5 points. Humpy became the youngest woman to
become a Grandmaster (Men) last week, and a good show here will improve her Elo Rating to
2500 from the present Elo of 2486, and confirm her historic achievement.
