The dynamic and enterprising chess star from Chennai, K Visweswaran (Elo 2301) who arrived in Denmark after a sojourn of five months across the Atlantic at the United States of America finished in a tie for the sixth to ninth places in the Tage Sorensen Memorial tournament at
Holbaek, Denmark.
Visweswaran started with a score of 4/5 and was in with a chance for an International Master Norm needing 2.5 points from the remaining four rounds. But successive losses in the sixth and seventh round put paid to his Norm chances, whereas he still has chances for finishing within the seven prizes offered in the tournament. Following Tage Sorensen Memorial the globe trotting Indian, the only chess professional from India other than World Champion Viswanathan Anand, is scheduled to play two more tournaments in Denmark.
With a draw and win in the final two rounds Visweswaran made the prize list ending up with 5.5 points. In the penultimate round he drew with IM Edward Porper of Israel and in the final round defeated Henrik Dahl Pedersen of Denmark. With two other tournaments in the cards, more will be expected of the Indian in his European tour.
