| Kasparov cruises to Linares title

World No. 1 Gary
Kasparov comfortably won the traditional Linares Super GM tourney with
a massive three point lead scoring 7.5 points from ten rounds.
Following Gary were all the other participants with a score of 4.5
points. Kasparov scored five wins and drew five games to login 7.5
points and with this performance is bound to push up his Elo Rating
beyond the 2850 mark.
Significantly, it was
a good show for the Hungarian Grandmaster Judit Polgar, the strongest
women player the world has seen yet, who finished on equal second
along with four others. Polgar drew both her games with Kasparov and
was the only one whom Kasparov failed to defeat in this tourney. Also
impressive was the performance of debutant Russian teenager Alexander
Grischuk, who scored fine wins over Shirov and Karpov, and the chess
world will hear more about this lad in near future.
