Round 13 Bakre champion, Humpy finishes fourth

IM Tejas Bakre (2446) of India won the tournament with 9.5 points with draw against Ilincic Zlatko in the last and final round and achieved his 2nd GM Norm. Koneru Humpy (2484) drew the last round against IM Paschall William (2393) of USA and finished fourth in this strong category X tournament with 7.5 points and missed her third GM norm by 1.5 points. Humpy showed enough mettle and resilience in the second half of the tournament to finish fourth despite loosing first two matches.

Round 12 Bakre maintains lead, Humpy draws

IM Tejas Bakre (2446) of India maintained his lead with 9.0 points ahead of GM Berkes Ferenc (2541) of Hungary and GM Ilincic Zlatko (2521) of Yugoslavia, who've both logged in 8.5 and 7.5 points respectively. Koneru Humpy (2484) drew against IM Felgaer Ruben (2467) of Argentina and remains in fourth place with 7.0 points.

Round 11 Bakre impressive, Humpy draws

Riding high on the crest of consistency, IM Tejas Bakre of India acquired his GM norm defeating IM Adam Horvath of Hungary, here today. Junior World Champion Koneru Humpy drew with second seed GM Ferenc Berkes (Hungary) and is placed third with 6.5 points while her opponent is in the second place with 7 points. Points position after eleventh round: Tejas Bakre (India) 8.0 points: Ferenc Berkes (Hungary) 7.5 pts Koneru Humpy (India) 6.5 points.

Round 10 Bakre joins leaders, Humpy wins

World junior champion Koneru Humpy and International Master Tejas Bakre both registered notable wins to improve their standings after the tenth round at the First Saturday GM tournament, Budapest, Hungary. Humpy defeated GM Zlatko Ilincic (2521) of Yugoslavia, while Bakre shocked Hungarian Grandmaster Zoltan Varga (2506). With the win, Humpy moved up to the third place with six points, while Bakre joined the leader GM Ferenc Berkes (2541) of Hungary with seven points.

Round 9 Bakre wins, Humpy draws

World junior girls champion Koneru Humpy drew her ninth round match against IM Andreas Schenk of Germany at the First Saturday GM tournament, Budapest, Hungary. Humpy is now placed fourth with five points. International Master Tejas Bakre of India continued his good form to register shock win over Hungarian IM Attila Czebe (2491) in his ninth round match.

Round 8 Humpy beats Adam Horvath

Sustaining her winning form, junior world champion Koneru Humpy defeated Hungarian IM Adam Horvath in the eighth round of the First Saturday GM Chess Tournament, being played at Budapest. After initial setbacks, Humpy found her winning ways back and retained her fifth slot after the 8th round with 4.5 points. Leading the table of 13-round category IX tournament is Hungarian GM and second seed Ferenc Berk with six points. IM Tejas Bakre, the other Indian playing in the tournament, along with IM Attila Czebe (Hungary) and GM Ilincic Zlatko (Yugoslavia) are placed joint second with 5 points each.

Round 7 Humpy beats GM Zoltan Varga

With the restored strength, WGM Koneru Humpy defeated Hungarian GM Varga Zoltan in the seventh round here today. The Hungarian GM Berkes Ferenc (2541) and Yugoslavian GM Ilincic Zlatko (2521) share the first spot with 5.0 points each. IM Tejas Bakre drew against top seed  Hungarian GM Horvath Jozsef reaching 4.0 points

Round 6 Humpy loses to Attila

WGM Koneru Humpy lost her sixth round to  Hungarian IM Czebe Attila and remains in 2.5 points. Hungarians Berkes Ferenc and Czebe Attila shared the lead with 4.5 points each. IM Bakre Tejas of India is in the fourth position with 3.5 points.

Round 5 Humpy improves with a win

Fresh from creditable draw against top seed in the fourth Round, Humpy (2484) got emphatic victory against Hungarian IM Bokros Albert (2429) and is now with 2.5 Points. The other Indian in fray, IM Bakre Tejas (2446) is in with 3.0 points.

Round 4 Humpy splits point with top seed

Coming out of her initial blues, World Junior Girls Champion Koneru Humpy drew with top seed Horvath Jozsef of Hungary in the fourth round of the First Saturday GM Chess tournament played at Budapest. Playing with remarkable grit, Humpy, who struck form after losing the first two games, accepted the offer to split the point with the top rated Hungarian Grand Master who has an ELO rating of 2551. The 14-year ninth standard girl, who is aspiring for a third GM norm in this category IX 13-round tournament, would take on Hungarian IM Bokros Albert in the fifth round.

Third seeded Yugoslov Grand Master Ilincic Zlatko leads the table with 3.5 points after the fourth round while second seed Berkes Ferenc, Czebe Attila (both Hungary) and Schenk Andreas (Germany) were joint second with 2.5 points each. Humpy has 1.5 points from four games.

Round 3 Humpy scores her first win

Junior world champion Koneru Humpy defeated IM Cao Sang (Hung) in the third round of the First Saturday GM Chess Tournament being held at Budapest. This is the first win for the 14-year girl from Andhra Pradesh, aspiring for the third GM norm which enables the IWM to become GM at an younger age than her idol Judith Polgar, should she achieve the distinction in this category IX tournament having tough opponents with better ELO ratings.

Round 2 Bakre in second place, Humpy loses

Junior World Champion Koneru Humpy lost her second round in a row, to Antal Gergely (2426) of Hungary. IM Tejas Bakre of India is in joint second position with 1.5 points.

Round 1 Humpy loses to Bakre in the opener

Junior World Champion Koneru Humpy lost her first round match to fellow countryman IM Tejas Bakre, here today. After the first round Ilincic Zlatko(Yugoslavia), Bakre Tejas (India) and Paschall William (USA) lead the tournament with 1.0 point each. Humpy is to play with black against Antal, Gergely(2426) of Hungary in the second round.

Preview Humpy in pursuit of Grandmaster title

Junior World Champion Koneru Humpy after having successfully achieved 2nd GM Norm in the Third Saturday GM Tournament at Belgrade, Yugoslavia recently, is now leaving to Budapest, Hungary to participate in the First Saturday GM Tournament to be held from 1st December 2001 to 14th December 2001. 

The tournament is a 13 round, Category IX with an average ELO Rating of 2451+, participated by top GMS like Horvath Jozsef (2551), Berkes Ferenc (2541), Ilincic Zlatko (2521), Varga Zoltan (2506) and other prominent players from the Countries Hungary, Yugoslavia, USA, Germany, Argentina and India. Bank of Baroda sponsored Humpy is the youngest player in this tough tournament. This tournament offers Humpy good chance to make the 3rd Grand Master Norm.

Holding another Indian angle will be former Asian Junior Champion Tejas Bakre. The Indian Airlines sponsored star will have ample opportunity to go after his maiden Grandmaster Norm in this closed tournament.
