Krishnan Sasikiran made the
country proud by winning the Boys title in the Asian Junior
Chess Championships at Vung Tau City, Vietnam.By winning this Chmpionship, Sashikiran also
obtains his second GM norm. He obtained his first GM norm a year ago at the British open.
Until the last round, Sasikiran was sharing the lead with the Malaysian youngster Mas
Hafizulhilmi at 7.5 points from ten rounds. In a dramatic eleventh and final round,
Sasikiran defeated Filipino Yulianlo Erwin, while joint leader Mas Hafizul was humbled by
Iranian Ehsan Ghaen Maghami. It was a third successive title in the Boys section for
India, as Abhijit Kunte and Tejas Bakre had won the titles in the previous two editions
for India. Bakre who had a slow start finished with 7 points.In the Girls section, National Women's Champion S. Vijayalakshmi secured
the third place with a steady performance, while her compatriots Pallavi and Sangeetha
could muster only 6 and 3 points finishing down the table.
China's Wang Yu won the title with a huge score of 10/11
and she was closely followed by the local girl Le K T Kim who took the second place.
