Tournaments 2002 Maharashtra Mini-Chess
(u-11 and u-13) championship, Pune B. Adithya of Saraswati Vidyalaya, Nagpur emerged as Champion in the under 11 category of the Maharashtra Mini-Chess (under 11 and under 13) championship, held in Pune during 29th October to 2nd November 2002 at Shiv Shankar
Sabhagriha, Maharishi Nagar, Pune. The tournament was organised by Pune District Chess Association on behalf of Maharastra State Chess Association. B. Adithya bagged 7.5 points out of 9 rounds. This category alone attracted a record entry of 104 players from all parts of Maharastra. Adithya seeded third, outclassed others remained unbeaten to clinch the title. During the decider, in the last round Adithya defeated Aditya Udesi of Mumbai using his favourite Sicilian Dragon Defence and pushed Udesi to the second spot. The under 13 category attracted 64 players, in which Soumitra Mazumdar of Pune finished first. Soumya Swaminathan and Mithali Patil emerged as champions in the under 13 and under 11 girls category respectively G. Balasubramanian
